Cleveland Cavaliers Meets Science with “Score with STEM” Event

An Interactive Day of STEM Discovery with the NEOSTEM Ecosystem and NBA Basketball Coming March 16

CLEVELAND, OH – March 13, 2025 – The Northeast Ohio STEM Ecosystem – NEOSTEM – the region’s leading collaborative network for STEM education and workforce development, is partnering with the Cleveland Cavaliers to present “Score with STEM.”

This interactive educational event combines the excitement of professional basketball with hands-on learning experiences in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The special event will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Tower City in downtown Cleveland.

Score with STEM offers hundreds of students and families a unique opportunity to explore real-world STEM application through the lens of professional sports. With a record number of 55+ exhibitors participating this year, attendees will engage in immersive activities showcasing how STEM principles power basketball and other aspects of our world.

“This event creates a powerful connection between STEM education and the real-world applications students can see on the basketball court,” said Alyssa Briggs, Director of NEOSTEM. “By combining hands-on learning with the excitement of NBA basketball, we’re inspiring the next generation of STEM professionals in Northeast Ohio.”

The day-long event features hands-on experiments, sports analytics workshops, and valuable mentorship opportunities with industry leaders, demonstrating how STEM powers the games students love to watch and play. From ASM Materials Foundation, Eaton Corporation, Oatey Company, Horizons Inc., Timken and Covelli to Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, event partners will offer families learning opportunities that extend beyond the event.

Among the event’s key sponsors is STEM Playbook, an innovative program that bridges the gap between sports and STEM education for students in grades 1-12. STEM Playbook combines the excitement of athletics with hands-on learning experiences to show students how technology drives athletic performance, data analysis, equipment innovation, and more.

“At STEM Playbook, we believe that connecting students’ passion for sports with career-connected learning creates powerful pathways to future STEM opportunities,” said Katie Grootegoed, President of STEM Playbook. “Score with STEM perfectly aligns with our mission to prepare students for 21st-century careers while demonstrating how STEM powers the games these students are passionate about.”

Event Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Score with STEM Event at Tower City Center
  • 1:00 PM: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Orlando Magic
