Community leaders planning engaging STEM activities for 1,500
CLEVELAND – As planning for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 2022 STEM Day continues, education, industry, and community leaders throughout northeast Ohio have assembled to help guide NeoSTEM Ecosystem’s efforts.
Representatives from several organizations, including the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Cuyahoga County Public Libraries, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, the City of Cleveland Department of Public Utilities, Baldwin Wallace University, the Great Lakes Science Center, StartSOLE, Youth Opportunities Unlimited, MyCom, the Ohio Invention League, Hands-on Health, Warrensville City Schools, Lorain County Community College, ASM Materials Foundation, Transformative Solutions, Soap Box Derby, DigitalC and others have joined NeoSTEM’s STEM Day planning committee.
The planning committee has been working to mobilize the region’s resources to create a fun-filled day of STEM-focused learning exhibits showcasing the intersection of science and sports. Students and families from across northeast Ohio will be invited to the event, and receive tickets to watch the Cavs take on the Detroit Pistons that evening.
“The northeast Ohio community is teaming up to expose young people to what the future of STEM can be,” said Claire Levin, senior executive specialist for Youth Opportunities Unlimited, a workforce nonprofit development organization in Cleveland. “While STEM is valuable in every aspect of life, the Score with STEM event is an embodiment of how STEM can be integrated into sports. Sports rely on STEM careers to bring the game to life, from statisticians to team doctors, [and] STEM professionals allow us to celebrate our passion from the court to our TVs.”
Score with STEM is scheduled for March 19, 2022, at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. The planning committee’s members are:
