NeoSTEM Ecosystem stakeholders, partners, and thought leaders have been gathering online since March to discuss a vision, goals and plans for DreamSTEM, an initiative designed to raise individual and community awareness and accessibility of STEM career opportunities, with an emphasis on Black and Brown students.
Planning began with DreamSTEM’s Design Team, which includes membership from K-12, higher education, industry and community organizations throughout Northeast Ohio. Team members met throughout March and April to craft DreamSTEM’s vision and mission — to increase the number of Black and Brown students and professionals pursuing STEM careers in the region, and to ensure that through their inclusion and participation, Northeast Ohio remains globally competitive in STEM industries.
From ideas and information shared in those meetings, the Design Team established four groups to carry DreamSTEM forward — asset mapping, community visibility and outreach, teacher externships and STEM mentorship. Each group is staffed by NeoSTEM, and is fortunate to include a roster of generous volunteer advisors from all facets of the NeoSTEM Ecosystem. These groups have scheduled meetings throughout the summer, and are hard at work bringing DreamSTEM’S vision to fruition.
